50年代ロンドンにて録音されていた、貴重なカリブ?アフリカ音楽を復刻する、UK Honest Jonsの人気シリーズ第三弾！今回は、ナイジェリアはラゴスからロンドンに移住し、50年代のロンドン・ソーホーにて人気を博したというバンドマスター、アンブローズ・キャンベルが関わった音源ばかりを集めた編集盤です。この人の50年代の人気ぶりは相当のものだったらしく、タビー・ヘイズやロニー・スコット、はたまたプリンス・バスターとも交流があったそうです。この編集盤に収録された音源はMoodiscの78rpm盤がほとんどということで、当時ロンドンで奏でられたアフリカ音楽の洗練とグルーヴが存分に楽しめます。プリミティヴなアフロ音楽との違いはジャズからの影響の強さでしょうか。とても聴きやすく、楽しめます。素晴らしいアンソロジー。オススメ！！
