1977年、ブラックアーク・スタジオで録音された奇跡のような一枚。ごりごりのラスタマンであったセドリック・マイトンとロイ・ジョンソ ンのデュオに当時ペリーのもとに入り浸っていたワッティ・バーネットがコーラスをつけた実質トリオによるヴォーカル作。自前のスタジオで実験を重ねまくり あらゆるアイデアを試していたリー・ペリーによる呪術的なミックスが、憂いを帯びたハイトーン・ヴォイスをフィーチャーしたミステリアスなヴォーカル・ア ンサンブルと融け合ったまさにマジカルな一枚。カール・クレイグのリエディットでクラブ・シーンでも人気を博した”Congoman”だけでなく他の曲も 凄い。マスターピース。

デトロイトからやってきたシンガー=メイヤー・ホーンソーンの1stアルバムは、期待通りの今様スウィート・ソウル・アルバ ム！！冒頭の”Prelude”～”A Strange Arrangement”の美しい流れからもうメロメロ。先行シングル”Maybe So, Maybe No”、”I Wish It Would Rain”、激甘な”Shiny&New”、モータウンっぽい”Make Her Mine”、冒頭のドラム・ブレイクが激シブい”Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out”など全曲最高です！！先行シングルの時点ではちょっとイロモノ的な人かなーとも思ってましたが、このアルバムのクオリティの高さには全面降伏。必聴の一枚です！
